Dr. Ilyssa Meren is a New York native and received her DVM from Cornell University in 2013. She then went on to complete a small animal rotating internship at The Animal Medical Center in NYC. After this, she completed a Neurology & Neurosurgery residency at Iowa State University (with part of her residency spent at the University of Illinois). After completing her residency in 2017, she lived in Phoenix, AZ where she worked as a private practice neurologist and as a locum neurologist all over the country in both academia and private practice. She moved to Grand Rapids, MI in 2025, and is currently exclusively working as a teleconsultant and locum (travel) neurologist.
Ilyssa’s interests in neurology started as a little girl with a childhood epilepsy syndrome. As she grew up, she had a strong passion for helping both people and animals, which eventually led her to veterinary school. It was there she discovered neurology as a specialty within veterinary medicine and the rest is history. She loves the puzzle of neurolocalization and the challenge of managing difficult to control epilepsy patients. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her family, reading, photography, and all things cats.
